Discipline!!

The 6 months are over.. The results are out. And again as usual, I have disgraced my family. Still, my cousins(bloody nerds) are getting good percentages and placements in good companies while I am ruining the family name and cannot get into most interviews because of my percentages not being high enough. I tried analysing why I can’t even respectable grades and came up with the conclusion that my life is terrible disorganized. I don’t study at all, sleep at ungodly hours, wake up mid afternoon, have irregular meals(duh!!! What’s breakfast???), tend to be lazy and skip out on gym, waste oodles of money and watch atleast 2 movies everyday. From now, I am going to make the following ammendments in my life:-

  1. Will sleep before 1 at night and wake up not after 8.
  2. Will have a heavy breakfast before 9.
  3. Will study THOROUGHLY(I tend to sit for hours with the books, just reading through the pages..).
  4. Will practice the guitar atleast 1 hour daily.
  5. Will NOT watch movies except very few and that too only if I have studied satisfactorily.
  6. Will NOT squander money away.
  7. Will NOT miss gym at any cost.
  8. Will NOT go out every evening and waste money on junk food.
  9. Will NOT spend hours on the internet, chatting.

As promised, now I won’t be buying an electric guitar until I get good results. That means more time to spend with ZAP for another 6 months.

Why Calcutta sucks…

Contrary to popular belief, I don’t find Calcutta the city of joy.. Following are the reasons why:-

  1. The whole city is depressing. As soon as I set foot in the city, a feeling of depression fills me.
  2. The climate sucks. It’s 90% or more humidity 12 months of the year. You sweat almost constantly as long as you are out of an Air-Conditioned room.
  3. City is overcrowded. Too many people and too less space. Poverty is among the highest in India. Again, gives a feeling of depression.
  4. People have a myth that living is cheap in Calcutta. Wake up guys, that was long time ago. A packet of branded detergent costs the same in Calcutta as in Delhi.
  5. People have named it Kolkata. Seriously this name sucks even more than the last one.
  6. Strikes almost everyday. People here just don’t want to work. And no, these strikes are not for serious issues. A rule for registering your pet at the municipal office does not call for 2 days of strikes, burning of banners and breaking of shop windows.
  7. People here have a belief that this is the best city in India when most of them haven’t even set foot outside West Bengal.
  8. Too many intellectuals. People here like to sit at a coffe shop, and talk away for hours deciding on how to improve the country. It would be more productive if they worked somewhere for that much time.
  9. Think people from other places are idiots.
  10. Roads are too crowded. No traffic discipline. To use the public transport system, you have to either be a black belt in some Martial arts or prepare to be hustled around.

That’s about all I can think for now. If I remember anything more, I will put the points in the comments area.

Retired Hurt..

Last Friday, working out my back on the T-bar. Heavy weight. Could feel something giving way. Didn’t notice it then. Now I am grounded with a muscle pull and not able to walk properly. Pain is not much but it has rendered me incapable of sleeping well at night. Slept for only 3 hours last night and had to wake up and go give my internal practical exam in the morning. Have a holiday tomorrow so no tension of waking up early. Was extremely relieved when the doc informed me that it was not a hernia.. Btw, doc has instructed me not to work out for another week or so and even after that to lift heavy weights only while sitting down… Cannot ride my bike because using the kick sends shrapnels of pain up my bones. Hope to be better by next morning atleast.

Why I hate shitty Nu-Metal bands..

Firstly, I am not insulting the taste of other people. Other people may like these bands and that’s fine with me. This post is about why I hate these bands(Linkin Park, Lost prophets, POD, Papa Roach, Saliva and many more..)

  1. Too much distortion:- They rarely ever play clean and it pisses me off. For me, a good song is a one with a good balance between distortion and clean. Too much distortion is just noise.
  2. No guitar solos:- These bands rarely have any solos in their songs. And not too much lead either. Only power chords with full distortion. What happened to maiden style solos??
  3. Not much talent:- Take Linkin Park for example. Their live concerts suck. You can’t even hear the guitar. And to top it off, they sell their live in Texas video with the audio of the original songs mixed with the video of the concert which makes it look like they are playing perfectly.
  4. Tie-up with hip-hoppers:- You sing with hip-hoppers and you call yourselves rock bands? You are blemishes on the name of Rock. Go to hell and die LP!!
  5. Plagiarism:- You steal the music from older songs or just remix them and insult the songs. One of the best selling songs of Papa Roach is “Between Angels and Insects”. Little do people know that the music is exactly same as that of Prowler by Maiden.
  6. The rickshaw pullers here play “In the end” on their decks.
  7. Your songs simply suck!!!

It’s sad to see that people call themselves rock fans and listen to bands like the ones listed above but have never heard of Iron Maiden, GnR, Pantera, Oasis, Eagles(except Hotel California) etc.. Real rock and it’s patrons are dwindling away, slowly being replaced by Nu-Metal fans which is really depressing 🙁

Why I haven’t blogged for a long time…

  1. My net connection got deactivated because my phone balance went below 10 rupees(actually zero).
  2. I didn’t have time to visit a cybercafe.
  3. I don’t have money to fuel my bike.
  4. I got a lot of movies at my place which kept me busy.
  5. Also a novel-Angels & Demons(Dan Brown)
  6. Had to complete my files for the submissions coming up.

Hopefully I will recieve my paycheck from my boss(DAD) in a few days and will be able to recharge my mobile again and blog away…

My Latest Mobile Phone…

A Motorola C350

No, this is not the picture of my handset, it’s a picture from the website. The theft of my phone had left me penniless so, somehow after conjuring up around 2000 bucks, I went off to the second hand mobile shop to search for a cheap phone with USB Modem capabilities. What I wanted was a samsung C100 but I couldn’t find that in any of the shops so I decided to settle for a Motorola C350. As I had already used my friend’s handset for a week, I knew that it had a decent modem with USB connectivity. Anyways, I have tried to list the Pros and Cons of this wonderful handset(not the original one but the second hand piece that I have) below.
Pros:-

  1. Decent modem with USB pop port.

Cons:-

  1. Pathetic display with huge dots forming up the tiny screen.
  2. Screen conveys a feeling of depression.
  3. 256 color screen.
  4. Pathetic menus.
  5. Disgusting text entry mechanism.
  6. Extremely bad ringtone quality.
  7. Body looks like the handset fell off a moving vehicle and a few trucks ran over it.
  8. Poor battery life.
  9. Crashes whenever some memory operation is performed.
  10. Lack of profiles.
  11. * key of the keypad broken in 3 places.
  12. Switches off automatically
  13. Vibrator louder than the ringtone.
  14. Maximum 2 lines of text on the screen at a time.
  15. After a message has been typed, you have to press atleast another 6 buttons to send it.
  16. Poor phonebook.
  17. Doesnt support picture messages, sms ringtones.

Great day!

What a busy day!! Woke up at 8 in the morning to go to college as we had participated in an event called “Who dares wins”. The events were less daring and more physically consuming. We had to run to far ends of the college on a treasure hunt. Then we had to carry one of our team members around a field(I was clutching my chest for half an hour after this). Then I had to do 10 push-ups(ridiculously easy)on a concrete pathway which had been baking under the sun for the past many hours(My hands are still raw!!). Anyways, we had the war of the bands in the evening. Got dressed and headed off for college. The next 6 hours are a blur. Intense headbanging, jumping has left me feeling tired and consumed. It was a wierd sight. Four of us headbanging on metallica while the rest of the crowd stood still and stared at us. Anyways, I realised that it’s so much more fun being in the crowd than playing on stage. Our college band came in second and one band “Rust” completely fucked up. The vocalist was shitty and ruined the whole show. Another downside was the locals and biharis shouting for hindi and bhojpuri songs. Anyways, the principal happy as usual after recieving his customary gift of a bottle of whiskey happily declared a holiday for tomorrow so will wake up late afternoon.

I am ruined!!!

My phone got stolen 2 days ago on Sunday.. I am sad.. 🙁 But the bright part is my roommate’s phone also got stolen 🙂 Mine was an O2 Xphone II and his was a Nokia N-Gage QD. Actually we didn’t have latch on our front door and our door used to be open while we slept. Sunday morning we woke up to find our mobiles gone. I soon reported an FIR with the police and got a new SIM card issued on the same number. This is my second phone to be stolen in the same style so I can’t even tell my parents.. Meanwhile I am using a shitty old Motorola C350 borrowed from a friend but at least it has got a USB modem inbuilt. Now, there’s nothing else to do except mourn watching this. Maybe collect enough money and buy a Nokia 3530 next month(my first color screen phone).

The Holi Hangover!!!

Yesterday was holi, the festival of colors. Woke up early, went to the hostel and had a blast!!! We tore each other’s clothes off and played holi(apply colored powder and paste) till late afternoon. After that came the time for Bhang(local cannabis drink). As I had never had it before, I underestimated it’s intoxicating properties and had 7 glasses straight away. Since it was made in the hostel, it was not properly mixed and I could feel several lumps of Bhang pass my throat but I didn’t give that a second thought. Got my mobile/wallet from Sonal’s cupboard and came home, washed myself as well as I could and went off to sleep. Now whatever happened after this I am not sure but I have tried to piece the story together from the narrations of my friends..
Viggi woke me up a couple of hours after I went to sleep and took me to CCD on his bike. Apparently we had lots of food and coffee there(I don’t remember any of this). We came back and I went off to sleep. I next woke up at 10 in the night and asked Prateek to bring me some food. At this point, I have memory only in flashes of 10 seconds. I was standing in front of the Cupboard and then I had forgotten why.. Standing in front of my house but didn’t know why!!!! I was just drifting in and out of consciousness. Again, I went off to sleep and woke up sometime after 2 at night dying of hunger, found the Biriyani Prateek had got for me and ate it with my bare hands only and then again rolled off to sleep.
Woke up this morning finding everything to be normal. Brushed my teeth, bathed and headed off to the hostel. Midway I confused driving my bike with flying an aeroplane in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. One minute I seemed to be driving my bike and the next minute, I was having a sensation of free fall. Reached hostel somehow to find the others in a similar situation. We joked around and then I again went to sleep. Came back to the flat in the evening with all the effects of the Bhang gone. Went to dinner with friends a few hours back. As soon as I had started having dinner, I started feeling lightheaded again. Asked viggi to drive my bke and came back home somehow and started writing for the blog. For everyone out there looking for a cheap high for a long time, go for a Bhang(only Rs 15/-(less than half a dollar)) and 2 days of high… I am now going off to sleep just hoping that the effects will be gone by tomorrow and the hangover is not too horrible…

The Return To Boar Dam

As sunday boredom set in, we all decided to take a trip to boar dam. Left at around 3 in the afternoon. It is around 70 kms from Nagpur and an excellent ride. We have to pass through mountains, valleys, forests and small villages. Rohit maintained the tradition by making his bike skid and falling down. Soon after, ayan’s bike got punctured and he had to ride on his tank for 2 kms to the next village. We stopped at the village and tried smoking bidis(Local cigarette made out of leaves). We reached there just before sunset and spent an hour there throwing stones and each other into the water. At sunset, we left and came back to Nagpur.

Earth bound misfit, I
